اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ وَصَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ نَبِيِّهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَسْلِيماً
English Transliteration
alhamdu lillahi rabbi al`alamina; wa salla allahu `ala sayyidina muhammadin nabiyyihi; wa alihi wa sallama tasliman.
English Meaning
All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all worlds. May Allah bless our master Muhammad, His Prophet, and his family, and grant them peace.

اَللَّهُمَّ لَكَ ٱاَلْحَمْدُ عَلَىٰ مَا جَرَىٰ بِهِ قَضَاؤُكَ فِي اوْلِيَائِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَخْلَصْتَهُمْ لِنَفْسِكَ وَدِينِكَ إِذِ ٱخْتَرْتَ لَهُمْ جَزِيلَ مَا عِنْدَكَ مِنَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ٱلْمُقِيمِ ٱلَّذِي لاَ زَوَالَ لَهُ وَلاَ ٱضْمِحْلاَلَ بَعْدَ انْ شَرَطْتَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلزُّهْدَ فِي دَرَجَاتِ هٰذِهِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ٱلدَّنِيَّةِ وَزُخْرُفِهَا وَزِبْرِجِهَا فَشَرَطُوٱ لَكَ ذٰلِكَ وَعَلِمْتَ مِنْهُمُ ٱلْوَفَاءَ بِهِ فَقَبِلْتَهُمْ وَقَرَّبْتَهُمْ وَقَدَّمْتَ لَهُمُ ٱلذِّكْرَ ٱلْعَلِيَّ وَٱلثَّنَاءَ ٱلْجَلِيَّ وَاهْبَطْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ مَلاَئِكَتَكَ وَكَرَّمْتَهُمْ بِوَحْيِكَ وَرَفَدْتَهُمْ بِعِلْمِكَ وَجَعَلْتَهُمُ ٱلذَّرِيعَةَ إِلَيْكَ وَٱلْوَسِيلَةَ إِلَىٰ رِضْوَانِكَ
English Transliteration
allahumma laka alhamdu; `ala ma jara bihi qada'uka; fi awliya'ika alladhina istakhlastahum linafsika wa dinika; idhi ikhtarta lahum jazila ma `indaka; min alnna`imi almuqimi; alladhi la zawala lahu wa la idmihlala; ba`da an sharatta `alayhim alzzuhda; fi darajati hadhihi alddunya alddaniyyati; wa zukhrufiha wa zibrijiha; fasharatu laka dhalika; wa `alimta minhum alwafa'a bihi; faqabiltahum wa qarrabtahum; wa qaddamta lahum aldhdhikra al`aliyya; walththana'a aljaliyya; wa ahbatta `alayhim mala'ikataka; wa karramtahum biwahyika; wa rafadtahum bi`ilmika; wa ja`altahum aldhdhari`ata ilayka; walwasilata ila ridwanika.
English Meaning
O Allah, praise is Yours for the decree You carried out concerning Your friends, whom You chose for Yourself and Your religion. You selected for them the abundant, everlasting bliss with You that neither ends nor fades, after requiring them to renounce the ranks, ornaments and glitter of this lowly world. They undertook that commitment, and You knew they would fulfil it. You accepted them, drew them near, granted them exalted remembrance and evident praise, sent Your angels to them, honoured them with revelation, supported them with Your knowledge, and made them the means of approaching You and attaining Your pleasure.

اے اللہ! تیری حمد ہے اس فیصلے پر جو تو نے اپنے ان اولیاء کے بارے میں جاری کیا جنہیں اپنے لیے اور اپنے دین کے لیے چنا۔ تو نے ان کے لیے اپنے پاس کی بڑی اور دائمی نعمتیں منتخب کیں جو نہ ختم ہوں نہ مٹیں؛ جبکہ ان سے اس پست دنیا کے مرتبوں، آرائش اور چمک دمک سے بے رغبتی کی شرط لی۔ انہوں نے یہ شرط قبول کی اور تو نے ان کی وفاداری جانی۔ تو نے انہیں قبول اور قریب کیا، بلند ذکر اور روشن تعریف عطا کی، فرشتے اتارے، وحی سے عزت دی، اپنے علم سے مدد دی اور انہیں اپنے قرب اور اپنی رضا کا وسیلہ بنایا۔
Remembering the Prophets

فَبَعْضٌ اسْكَنْتَهُ جَنَّتَكَ إِلَىٰ انْ اخْرَجْتَهُ مِنْهَا وَبَعْضٌ حَمَلْتَهُ فِي فُلْكِكَ وَنَجَّيْتَهُ وَمَنْ آمَنَ مَعَهُ مِنَ ٱلْهَلَكَةِ بِرَحْمَتِكَ وَبَعْضٌ ٱتَّخَذْتَهُ لِنَفْسِكَ خَلِيلاًَ وَسَالَكَ لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ فِي ٱلآخِرِينَ فَاجَبْتَهُ وَجَعَلْتَ ذٰلِكَ عَلِيّاً وَبَعْضٌ كَلَّمْتَهُ مِنْ شَجَرَةٍ تَكْلِيماً وَجَعَلْتَ لَهُ مِنْ اخِيهِ رِدْءاً وَوَزِيراً وَبَعْضٌ اوْلَدْتَهُ مِنْ غَيْرِ ابٍ وَآتَيْتَهُ ٱلْبَيِّنَاتِ وَايَّدْتَهُ بِرُوحِ ٱلْقُدُسِ
English Transliteration
faba`dun askantahu jannataka; ila an akhrajtahu minha; wa ba`dun hamaltahu fi fulkika; wa najjaytahu wa man amana ma`ahu; min alhalakati birahmatika; wa ba`dun ittakhadhtahu linafsika khalilan; wa sa'alaka lisana sidqin fi al-akhirina fa'ajabtahu; wa ja`alta dhalika `aliyyan; wa ba`dun kallamtahu min shajaratin takliman; wa ja`alta lahu min akhihi rid'an wa waziran; wa ba`dun awladtahu min ghayri abin; wa ataytahu albayyinati; wa ayyadtahu biruhi alqudusi.
English Meaning
One You settled in Your garden until You brought him out. Another You carried in Your ark, saving him and those who believed with him from destruction through Your mercy. Another You took as Your intimate friend; he asked for an honourable remembrance among later generations, and You answered and made it exalted. Another You addressed directly from a tree and gave his brother as an assistant and minister. Another You caused to be born without a father, gave clear signs and supported with the Holy Spirit.

کسی کو تو نے اپنی جنت میں ٹھہرایا، یہاں تک کہ اسے وہاں سے نکالا۔ کسی کو اپنی کشتی میں سوار کیا اور اپنی رحمت سے اسے اور اس کے ساتھ ایمان والوں کو ہلاکت سے بچایا۔ کسی کو اپنا خلیل بنایا؛ اس نے بعد کی نسلوں میں سچا اور نیک ذکر مانگا، تو نے قبول کیا اور اسے بلند بنایا۔ کسی سے درخت کے ذریعے کلام کیا اور اس کے بھائی کو مددگار اور وزیر بنایا۔ کسی کو باپ کے بغیر پیدا کیا، روشن نشانیاں دیں اور روح القدس سے تائید فرمائی۔
Continuity of divine guidance

وَكُلٌّ شَرَعْتَ لَهُ شَرِيعَةً وَنَهَجْتَ لَهُ مِنْهَاجاً وَتَخَيَّرْتَ لَهُ اوْصِيَاءَ مُسْتَحْفِظاً بَعْدَ مُسْتَحْفِظٍ مِنْ مُدَّةٍ إِلَىٰ مُدَّةٍ إِقَامَةً لِدِينِكَ وَحُجَّةً عَلَىٰ عِبَادِكَ وَلِئَلاَّ يَزُولَ ٱلْحَقُّ عَنْ مَقَرِّهِ وَيَغْلِبَ ٱلْبَاطِلُ عَلَىٰ اهْلِهِ وَلاَ يَقُولَ احَدٌ لَوْ لاَ ارْسَلْتَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولاًَ مُنْذِراً وَاقَمْتَ لَنَا عَلَماً هَادِياً فَنَتَّبِعَ آيَاتِكَ مِنْ قَبْلِ انْ نَذِلَّ وَنَخْزَىٰ
English Transliteration
wa kullun shara`ta lahu shari`atan; wa nahajta lahu minhajan; wa takhayyarta lahu awsiya'a; mustahfizan ba`da mustahfizin; min muddatin ila muddatin; iqamatan lidinika; wa hujjatan `ala `ibadika; wa li'alla yazula alhaqqu `an maqarrihi; wa yaghliba albatilu `ala ahlihi; wa la yaqula ahadun; lawla arsalta ilayna rasulan mundhiran; wa aqamta lana `alaman hadiyan; fanattabi`a ayatika min qabli an nadhilla wa nakhza.
English Meaning
For each You prescribed a law and laid out a path, choosing successors and trusted guardians, one after another, from one era to the next, to uphold Your religion and establish a proof for Your servants. Thus truth would not leave its place or falsehood overcome its people, and none could say: 'If only You had sent us a warning messenger and appointed a guiding sign, we would have followed Your signs before humiliation and disgrace.'

ہر ایک کے لیے شریعت مقرر کی، راستہ واضح کیا اور جانشین چنے؛ ایک امین نگہبان کے بعد دوسرا، ایک دور کے بعد دوسرا، تاکہ تیرا دین قائم اور بندوں پر حجت تمام ہو۔ حق اپنی جگہ سے نہ ہٹے، باطل اہل حق پر غالب نہ آئے اور کوئی یہ نہ کہہ سکے کہ تو نے ہمارے پاس خبردار کرنے والا رسول اور رہنمائی کرنے والی نشانی بھیجی ہوتی تو ذلت اور رسوائی سے پہلے تیری آیات کی پیروی کرتے۔
The mission of Prophet Muhammad

إِلَىٰ انِ ٱنْتَهَيْتَ بِٱلامْرِ إِلَىٰ حَبِيبِكَ وَنَجِيبِكَ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ فَكَانَ كَمَا ٱنْتَجَبْتَهُ سَيِّدَ مَنْ خَلَقْتَهُ وَصَفْوَةَ مَنِ ٱصْطَفَيْتَهُ وَافْضَلَ مَنِ ٱجْتَبَيْتَهُ وَاكْرَمَ مَنِ ٱعْتَمَدْتَهُ قَدَّمْتَهُ عَلَىٰ انْبِيَائِكَ وَبَعَثْتَهُ إِلَىٰ ٱلثَّقَلَيْنِ مِنْ عِبَادِكَ وَاوْطَاتَهُ مَشَارِقَكَ وَمَغَارِبَكَ وَسَخَّرْتَ لَهُ ٱلْبُرَاقَ وَعَرَجْتَ بِرُوْحِهِ إِلَىٰ سَمَائِكَ وَاوْدَعْتَهُ عِلْمَ مَا كَانَ وَمَا يَكُونُ إِلَىٰ ٱنْقِضَاءِ خَلْقِكَ ثُمَّ نَصَرْتَهُ بِٱلرُّعْبِ وَحَفَفْتَهُ بِجَبْرَئِيلَ وَمِيكَائِيلَ وَٱلْمُسَوِّمِينَ مِنْ مَلاَئِكَتِكَ وَوَعَدْتَهُ انْ تُظْهِرَ دِينَهُ عَلَىٰ ٱلدِّينِ كُلِّهِ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ ٱلْمُشْرِكُونَ
English Transliteration
ila an intahayta bil-amri ila habibika wa najibika muhammadin; salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi; fakana kama intajabtahu; sayyida man khalaqtahu; wa safwata man istafaytahu; wa afdala man ijtabaytahu; wa akrama man i`tamadtahu; qaddamtahu `ala anbiya'ika; wa ba`athtahu ila alththaqalayni min `ibadika; wa awta'tahu mashariqaka wa magharibaka; wa sakhkharta lahu alburaqa; wa `arajta biruhihi ila sama'ika; wa awda`tahu `ilma ma kana; wa ma yakunu ila inqida'i khalqika; thumma nasartahu bilrru`bi; wa hafaftahu bijabra'ila wa mika'ila; walmusawwimina min mala'ikatika; wa wa`adtahu an tuzhira dinahu `ala alddini kullihi; wa law kariha almushrikuna.
English Meaning
Then You brought the matter to Your beloved, chosen Muhammad—may Allah bless him and his family. As You selected him, he was the master of Your creation, the purest of Your chosen ones, the best of those You preferred and the noblest of those You entrusted. You placed him before Your Prophets and sent him to both humankind and jinn. You enabled him to reach the east and west, subjected Buraq to him, raised his spirit to Your heaven, entrusted him with knowledge of what had been and would be until creation's end, aided him with awe, surrounded him with Gabriel, Michael and Your marked angels, and promised to make his religion prevail over all religion even if the polytheists disliked it.

پھر تو نے یہ سلسلہ اپنے محبوب اور منتخب محمد تک پہنچایا، اللہ ان پر اور ان کی آل پر رحمت فرمائے۔ وہ تیری پسند کے مطابق تیری مخلوق کے سردار، تیرے برگزیدوں میں پاکیزہ ترین، منتخب لوگوں میں افضل اور تیرے اعتماد والوں میں معزز ترین تھے۔ تو نے انہیں انبیاء پر مقدم کیا اور جن و انس کی طرف بھیجا۔ مشرق و مغرب میں رسائی دی، براق مسخر کیا، ان کی روح کو اپنے آسمان کی طرف عروج دیا، گزشتہ اور خلقت کے اختتام تک آنے والے امور کا علم سپرد کیا، رعب سے مدد دی، جبرائیل، میکائیل اور نشان دار فرشتوں سے گھیرا اور وعدہ کیا کہ ان کے دین کو سب دینوں پر غالب کرے گا، اگرچہ مشرکوں کو ناگوار ہو۔
The Sacred House and the Ahlul Bayt

وَذٰلِكَ بَعْدَ انْ بَوَّاتَهُ مُبَوَّا صِدْقٍ مِنْ اهْلِهِ وَجَعَلْتَ لَهُ وَلَهُمْ اوَّلَ بَيْتٍ وُضِعَ لِلنَّاسِ لَلَّذي بِبَكَّةَ مُبَارَكاً وَهُدىًٰ لِلْعَالَمينَ فِيهِ آيَاتٌ بَيِّنَاتٌ مَقَامُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمَنْ دَخَلَهُ كَانَ آمِناً وَقُلْتَ «إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ ٱلرِّجْسَ اهْلَ ٱلْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيراً.»
English Transliteration
wa dhalika ba`da an bawwa'tahu mubawwa'a sidqin min ahlihi; wa ja`alta lahu wa lahum awwala baytin; wudi`a lilnnasi lalladhi bibakkata; mubarakan wa hudan lil`alamina; fihi ayatun bayyinatun; maqamu ibrahima; wa man dakhalahu kana aminan; wa qulta innama yuridu allahu liyudhhiba `ankum alrrijsa; ahla albayti; wa yutahhirakum tathiran.
English Meaning
You settled him among his family in an honourable dwelling and appointed for him and them the first House established for people, at Bakkah, blessed and a guidance for all worlds. In it are clear signs and the station of Ibrahim, and whoever enters it is safe. You said: 'Allah desires only to remove impurity from you, people of the Household, and purify you completely.'

تو نے انہیں ان کے اہل کے درمیان سچی اور باعزت جگہ دی، اور ان کے لیے وہ پہلا گھر مقرر کیا جو لوگوں کے لیے بکہ میں بنایا گیا، بابرکت اور تمام جہانوں کے لیے ہدایت۔ اس میں روشن نشانیاں اور مقام ابراہیم ہیں، اور جو اس میں داخل ہو امن پاتا ہے۔ تو نے فرمایا: اللہ یہی چاہتا ہے کہ اے اہل بیت! تم سے ہر ناپاکی دور کرے اور تمہیں پوری طرح پاک رکھے۔
Love for the Prophet's family

ثُمَّ جَعَلْتَ اجْرَ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَوَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ مَوَدَّتَهُمْ فِي كِتَابِكَ فَقُلْتَ «قُلْ لاَ اسْالُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ اجْراً إِلاَّ ٱلْمَوَدَّةَ فِي ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ.» وَقُلْتَ «مَا سَالْتُكُمْ مِنْ اجْرٍ فَهُوَ لَكُمْ.» وَقُلْتَ «مَا اسْالُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ اجْرٍ إِلاَّ مَنْ شَاءَ انْ يَتَّخِذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِ سَبِيلاًَ.» فَكَانُوٱ هُمُ ٱلسَّبِيلَ إِلَيْكَ وَٱلْمَسْلَكَ إِلَىٰ رِضْوَانِكَ
English Transliteration
thumma ja`alta ajra muhammadin; salawatuka `alayhi wa alihi; mawaddatahum fi kitabika; faqulta qul la as'alukum `alayhi ajran; illa almawaddata fi alqurba; wa qulta ma sa'altukum min ajrin fahuwa lakum; wa qulta ma as'alukum `alayhi min ajrin; illa man sha'a an yattakhidha ila rabbihi sabilan; fakanu hum alssabila ilayka; walmaslaka ila ridwanika.
English Meaning
Then in Your Book You made love for his family the recompense for Muhammad—Your blessings upon him and his family. You said: 'Say: I ask no reward from you for it except love for my near relatives.' You said: 'Whatever reward I have asked from you is for yourselves.' And You said: 'I ask no reward from you for it, except that whoever wishes may take a way to his Lord.' They became the way to You and the path to Your pleasure.
Urdu Meaning · اردو ترجمہ
پھر اپنی کتاب میں محمد، جن پر اور ان کی آل پر تیری رحمت ہو، کی رسالت کا اجر ان کے اہل کی محبت قرار دیا۔ فرمایا: کہہ دو، میں اس پر تم سے قربیٰ کی محبت کے سوا کوئی اجر نہیں مانگتا۔ فرمایا: میں نے تم سے جو اجر مانگا وہ تمہارے ہی لیے ہے۔ اور فرمایا: میں اس پر کوئی اجر نہیں مانگتا، مگر یہ کہ جو چاہے اپنے رب کی طرف راستہ اختیار کرے۔ پس وہ تیری طرف راستہ اور تیری رضا تک پہنچنے کا ذریعہ بنے۔
Imam Ali and the declaration of guardianship

فَلَمَّا ٱنْقَضَتْ ايَّامُهُ اقَامَ وَلِيَّهُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ ابِي طَالِبٍ صَلَوَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِمَا وَآلِهِمَا هَادِياً إِذْ كَانَ هُوَ ٱلْمُنْذِرَ وَلِكُلِّ قَوْمٍ هَادٍ فَقَالَ وَٱلْمَلَا امَامَهُ: ”مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلاَهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلاَهُ اَللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالاَهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ وَٱنْصُرْ مَنْ نَصَرَهُ وَٱخْذُلْ مَنْ خَذَلَهُ.“ وَقَالَ: ”مَنْ كُنْتُ انَا نَبِيَّهُ فَعَلِيٌّ امِيرُهُ.“ وَقَالَ: ”انَا وَعَلِيٌّ مِنْ شَجَرَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ وَسَائِرُ ٱلنَّاسِ مِنْ شَجَرٍ شَتَّىٰ.“ وَاحَلَّهُ مَحَلَّ هَارُونَ مِنْ مُوسَىٰ فَقَالَ لَهُ: ”انْتَ مِنِّي بِمَنْزِلَةِ هَارُونَ مِنْ مُوسَىٰ إِلاَّ انَّهُ لاَ نَبِيَّ بَعْدِي.“
English Transliteration
falamma inqadat ayyamuhu; aqama waliyyahu `aliyya bna abi talibin; salawatuka `alayhima wa alihima hadiyan; idh kana huwa almundhira; wa likulli qawmin hadin; faqala walmala'u amamahu; man kuntu mawlahu; fa`aliyyun mawlahu; allahumma wali man walahu; wa `adi man `adahu; wansur man nasarahu; wakhdhul man khadhalahu; wa qala man kuntu ana nabiyyahu fa`aliyyun amiruhu; wa qala ana wa `aliyyun min shajaratin wahidatin; wa sa'iru alnnasi min shajarin shatta; wa ahallahu mahalla haruna min musa; faqal lahu anta minni bimanzilati haruna min musa; illa annahu la nabiyya ba`di.
English Meaning
When his days drew to a close, he appointed his wali Ali ibn Abi Talib as a guide—Your blessings upon them and their families—for he was the warner and every people has a guide. Before the gathering he said: 'Whoever has me as his master has Ali as his master. O Allah, befriend whoever befriends him, oppose whoever opposes him, help whoever helps him and forsake whoever forsakes him.' He said: 'Whoever has me as his Prophet has Ali as his commander.' He said: 'Ali and I are from one tree; other people are from different trees.' He gave him the position of Harun with Musa, saying: 'You are to me as Harun was to Musa, except that there is no Prophet after me.'

جب ان کے ایام ختم ہونے کو آئے تو انہوں نے اپنے ولی علی بن ابی طالب کو ہادی مقرر کیا، ان پر اور ان کی آل پر تیری رحمت ہو؛ کیونکہ رسول خبردار کرنے والے تھے اور ہر قوم کے لیے ہادی ہے۔ مجمع کے سامنے فرمایا: جس کا میں مولا ہوں اس کے علی مولا ہیں۔ اے اللہ! ان کے دوست سے دوستی، دشمن سے دشمنی، مددگار کی مدد اور انہیں چھوڑنے والے کو بے مدد فرما۔ فرمایا: جس کا میں نبی ہوں اس کے علی امیر ہیں۔ فرمایا: میں اور علی ایک درخت سے ہیں اور دوسرے لوگ مختلف درختوں سے۔ انہیں موسیٰ کے مقابل ہارون کا مقام دیا اور فرمایا: تمہارا میرے ساتھ وہی مقام ہے جو ہارون کا موسیٰ کے ساتھ تھا، مگر میرے بعد کوئی نبی نہیں۔

وَزَوَّجَهُ ٱبْنَتَهُ سَيِّدَةَ نِسَاءِ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ وَاحَلَّ لَهُ مِنْ مَسْجِدِهِ مَا حَلَّ لَهُ وَسَدَّ ٱلابْوَابَ إِلاَّ بَابَهُ ثُمَّ اوْدَعَهُ عِلْمَهُ وَحِكْمَتَهُ فَقَالَ: ”انَا مَدِينَةُ ٱلْعِلْمِ وَعَلِيٌّ بَابُهَا فَمَنْ ارَادَ ٱلْمَدِينَةَ وَٱلْحِكْمَةَ فَلْيَاتِهَا مِنْ بَابِهَا.“
English Transliteration
wa zawwajahu ibnatahu sayyidata nisa'i al`alamina; wa ahalla lahu min masjidihi ma halla lahu; wa sadda al-abwaba illa babahu; thumma awda`ahu `ilmahu wa hikmatahu; faqala ana madinatu al`ilmi; wa `aliyyun babuha; faman arada almadinata walhikmata; falya'tiha min babiha.
English Meaning
He married him to his daughter, the foremost woman of all worlds; permitted him in his mosque what was permitted to himself; and closed the doors except his. He entrusted him with his knowledge and wisdom, saying: 'I am the city of knowledge and Ali is its gate. Whoever seeks the city and wisdom should enter through its gate.'

انہوں نے اپنی بیٹی، تمام جہانوں کی عورتوں کی سردار، سے ان کا نکاح کیا؛ اپنی مسجد میں ان کے لیے وہی اجازت رکھی جو اپنے لیے تھی، اور ان کے دروازے کے سوا دروازے بند کیے۔ پھر اپنا علم و حکمت ان کے سپرد کرکے فرمایا: میں علم کا شہر ہوں اور علی اس کا دروازہ ہیں؛ جو شہر اور حکمت چاہے وہ دروازے سے آئے۔

ثُمَّ قَالَ: ”انْتَ اخِي وَوَصِيِّي وَوَارِثِي لَحْمُكَ مِنْ لَحْمِي وَدَمُكَ مِنْ دَمِي وَسِلْمُكَ سِلْمِي وَحَرْبُكَ حَرْبِي وَٱلإِيـمَانُ مُخَالِطٌ لَحْمَكَ وَدَمَكَ كَمَا خَالَطَ لَحْمِي وَدَمِي وَانْتَ غَداً عَلَىٰ الْحَوْضِ خَلِيفَتِي وَانْتَ تَقْضِي دَيْنِي وَتُنْجِزُ عِدَاتِي وَشِيعَتُكَ عَلَىٰ مَنَابِرَ مِنْ نُورٍ مُبْيَضَّةً وُجُوهُهُمْ حَوْلِي فِي ٱلْجَنَّةِ وَهُمْ جِيرَانِي وَلَوْلاَ انْتَ يَا عَلِيُّ لَمْ يُعْرَفِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ بَعْدِي.“
English Transliteration
thumma qala anta akhi wa wasiyyi wa warithi; lahmuka min lahmi; wa damuka min dami; wa silmuka silmi; wa harbuka harbi; wal-imanu mukhalitun lahmaka wa damaka; kama khalata lahmi wa dami; wa anta ghadan `ala alhawdi khalifati; wa anta taqdi dayni; wa tunjizu `idati; wa shi`atuka `ala manabira min nurin; mubyaddatan wujuhuhum hawli fi aljannati; wa hum jirani; wa lawla anta ya `aliyyu; lam yu`raf almu'minuna ba`di.
English Meaning
Then he said: 'You are my brother, successor and heir. Your flesh is of my flesh and your blood of my blood; your peace is my peace and your war my war. Faith is mingled with your flesh and blood as with mine. Tomorrow at the Pond you are my representative; you settle my debts and fulfil my promises. Your followers, with bright faces, will be around me in Paradise on pulpits of light, and they are my neighbours. Were it not for you, Ali, the believers after me would not be recognised.'

پھر فرمایا: تم میرے بھائی، وصی اور وارث ہو۔ تمہارا گوشت میرے گوشت سے اور خون میرے خون سے ہے؛ تمہاری صلح میری صلح اور جنگ میری جنگ ہے۔ ایمان تمہارے گوشت و خون میں اسی طرح ملا ہے جیسے میرے میں۔ کل حوض پر تم میرے جانشین ہو؛ میرے قرض ادا اور وعدے پورے کرتے ہو۔ تمہارے شیعہ نور کے منبروں پر روشن چہروں کے ساتھ جنت میں میرے گرد اور میرے پڑوسی ہوں گے۔ اے علی! اگر تم نہ ہوتے تو میرے بعد مومن پہچانے نہ جاتے۔
Guidance and opposition

وَكَانَ بَعْدَهُ هُدىٰ مِنَ ٱلضَّلاَلِ وَنُوراً مِنَ ٱلْعَمَىٰ وَحَبْلَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمَتِينَ وَصِرَاطَهُ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ لاَ يُسْبَقُ بِقَرَابَةٍ فِي رَحِمٍ وَلاَ بِسَابِقَةٍ فِي دِينٍ وَلاَ يُلْحَقُ فِي مَنْقَبَةٍ مِنْ مَنَاقِبِهِ يَحْذُو حَذْوَ ٱلرَّسُولِ صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمَا وَآلِهِمَا وَيُقَاتِلُ عَلَىٰ ٱلتَّاوِيلِ وَلاَ تَاخُذُهُ فِي ٱللَّهِ لَوْمَةُ لاَئِمٍ قَدْ وَتَرَ فِيهِ صَنَادِيدَ ٱلْعَرَبِ وَقَتَلَ ابْطَالَهُمْ وَنَاوَشَ ذُؤْبَانَهُمْ فَاوْدَعَ قُلُوبَهُمْ احْقَاداً بَدْرِيَّةً وَخَيْبَرِيَّةً وَحُنَيْنِيَّةً وَغَيْرَهُنَّ فَاضَبَّتْ عَلَىٰ عَدَاوَتِهِ وَاكَبَّتْ عَلَىٰ مُنَابَذَتِهِ حَتَّىٰ قَتَلَ ٱلنَّاكِثِينَ وَٱلْقَاسِطِينَ وَٱلْمَارِقِينَ
English Transliteration
wa kana ba`dahu hudan min alddalali; wa nuran min al`ama; wa habla allahi almatina; wa siratahu almustaqima; la yusbaqu biqarabatin fi rahimin; wa la bisabiqatin fi dinin; wa la yulhaqu fi manqabatin min manaqibihi; yahdhu hadhwa alrrasuli; salla allahu `alayhima wa alihima; wa yuqatilu `ala altta'wili; wa la ta'khudhuhu fi allahi lawmatu la'imin; qad watara fihi sanadida al`arabi; wa qatala abtalahum; wa nawasha dhu'banahum; fa'awda`a qulubahum ahqadan; badriyyatan wa khaybariyyatan wa hunayniyyatan wa ghayrahunna; fa'adabbat `ala `adawatihi; wa akabbat `ala munabadhatihi; hatta qatala alnnakithina walqasitina walmariqina.
English Meaning
After him, Ali was guidance away from error, light against blindness, Allah's firm rope and His straight path. None surpassed him in kinship or precedence in religion, and none matched his virtues. He followed the Messenger—may Allah bless them and their families—and fought for the true interpretation, fearing no critic's blame in Allah's cause. He struck down the chiefs of the Arabs, killed their champions and challenged their fierce warriors. Their hearts held grudges from Badr, Khaybar, Hunayn and other battles; they persisted in enmity and opposition until he fought the oath-breakers, the unjust and those who departed from the faith.

رسول کے بعد علی گمراہی سے ہدایت، اندھے پن سے نور، اللہ کی مضبوط رسی اور سیدھا راستہ تھے۔ نسبی قرب اور دین میں سبقت میں کوئی ان سے آگے نہ تھا، اور ان کے فضائل میں کوئی برابر نہ پہنچا۔ وہ رسول کے نقش قدم پر چلے، اللہ دونوں اور ان کی آل پر رحمت کرے؛ صحیح تاویل کے لیے جنگ کی اور اللہ کی راہ میں کسی ملامت کرنے والے سے نہ ڈرے۔ عرب کے سرداروں کو شکست دی، ان کے بہادروں کو قتل اور سرکشوں کا مقابلہ کیا۔ ان کے دلوں میں بدر، خیبر، حنین اور دوسری جنگوں کی دشمنیاں رہیں؛ وہ عداوت اور مخالفت پر قائم رہے، یہاں تک کہ آپ نے عہد توڑنے والوں، ظالموں اور دین سے نکلنے والوں سے جنگ کی۔
The suffering of the Household

وَلَمَّا قَضَىٰ نَحْبَهُ وَقَتَلَهُ اشْقَىٰ ٱلآخِرِينَ يَتْبَعُ اشْقَىٰ ٱلاوَّلِينَ لَمْ يُمْتَثَلْ امْرُ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ فِي ٱلْهَادِينَ بَعْدَ ٱلْهَادِينَ وَٱلامَّةُ مُصِرَّةٌ عَلَىٰ مَقْتِهِ مُجْتَمِعَةٌ عَلَىٰ قَطِيعَةِ رَحِمِهِ وَإِقْصَاءِ وُلْدِهِ إِلاَّ ٱلْقَلِيلَ مِمَّنْ وَفَىٰ لِرِعَايَةِ ٱلْحَقِّ فِيهِمْ فَقُتِلَ مَنْ قُتِلَ وَسُبِيَ مَنْ سُبِيَ وَاقْصِيَ مَنْ اقْصِيَ
English Transliteration
wa lamma qada nahbahu; wa qatalahu ashqa al-akhirina yatba`u ashqa al-awwalina; lam yumtathal amru rasuli allahi; salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi; fi alhadina ba`da alhadina; wal-ummatu musirratun `ala maqtihi; mujtami`atun `ala qati`ati rahimihi; wa iqsa'i wuldihi; illa alqalila mimman wafa liri`ayati alhaqqi fihim; faqutila man qutila; wa subiya man subiya; wa uqsiya man uqsiya.
English Meaning
When his appointed end came and the most wretched of later people killed him, following the most wretched of earlier people, the Messenger's command concerning the guides after him was not obeyed—may Allah bless him and his family. The community persisted in hostility, severing his family ties and excluding his children, except the few who honoured their rightful due. Some were killed, some taken captive and some driven away.

جب ان کی عمر پوری ہوئی اور بعد والوں کے بدبخت ترین نے، پہلے والوں کے بدبخت ترین کی پیروی میں، انہیں قتل کیا تو رسول، اللہ ان پر اور ان کی آل پر رحمت کرے، کے بعد یکے بعد دیگرے ہادیوں کے بارے میں ان کے حکم کی تعمیل نہ ہوئی۔ امت دشمنی، ان کے خاندان سے قطع تعلق اور ان کی اولاد کو دور کرنے پر قائم رہی، سوائے ان چند کے جنہوں نے ان کے حق کی رعایت کی۔ کوئی قتل ہوا، کوئی اسیر ہوا اور کوئی نکالا گیا۔
Allah's promise

وَجَرَىٰ ٱلْقَضَاءُ لَهُمْ بِمَا يُرْجَىٰ لَهُ حُسْنُ ٱلْمَثُوبَةِ إِذْ كَانَتِ ٱلارْضُ لِلَّهِ يُورِثُهَا مَنْ يَشَاءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ وَٱلْعَاقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ وَسُبْحَانَ رَبِّنَا إِنْ كَانَ وَعْدُ رَبِّنَا لَمَفْعُولاًَ وَلَنْ يُخْلِفَ ٱللَّهُ وَعْدَهُ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ
English Transliteration
wa jara alqada'u lahum; bima yurja lahu husnu almathubati; idh kanat al-ardu lillahi; yurithuha man yasha'u min `ibadihi; wal`aqibatu lilmuttaqina; wa subhana rabbina; in kana wa`du rabbina lamaf`ulan; wa lan yukhlifa allahu wa`dahu; wa huwa al`azizu alhakimu.
English Meaning
The decree passed over them in a manner for which a good reward is hoped. The earth belongs to Allah; He grants it as an inheritance to whichever servants He wills, and the final outcome belongs to the God-conscious. Our Lord is free of imperfection; His promise shall surely be fulfilled. Allah never breaks His promise, and He is the Mighty, the Wise.

Lament for the absent guides

فَعَلَىٰ ٱلاطَائِبِ مِنْ اهْلِ بَيْتِ مُحَمَّد وَعَلِيٍّ صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمَا وَآلِهِمَا فَلْيَبْكِ ٱلْبَاكُونَ وَإِيَّاهُمْ فَلْيَنْدُبِ ٱلنَّادِبُونَ وَلِمِثْلِهِمْ فَلْتَذْرِفِ ٱلدُّمُوعُ وَلْيَصْرُخِ ٱلصَّارِخُونَ وَيَضِجَّ ٱلضَّاجُّونَ وَيَعِجَّ ٱلْعَاجُّوَنَ ايْنَ ٱلْحَسَنُ ايْنَ ٱلْحُسَيْنُ ايْنَ ابْنَاءُ ٱلْحُسَيْنِ صَالِحٌ بَعْدَ صَالِحٍ وَصَادِقٌ بَعْدَ صَادِقٍ ايْنَ ٱلسَّبِيلُ بَعْدَ ٱلسَّبِيلِ ايْنَ ٱلْخِيَرَةُ بَعْدَ ٱلْخِيَرَةِ ايْنَ ٱلشُّمُوسُ ٱلطَّالِعَةُ ايْنَ ٱلاقْمَارُ ٱلْمُنِيرَةُ ايْنَ ٱلانْجُمُ ٱلزَّاهِرَةُ ايْنَ اعْلاَمُ ٱلدِّينِ وَقَوَاعِدُ ٱلْعِلْمِ ايْنَ بَقِيَّةُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّتِي لاَ تَخْلُو مِنَ ٱلْعِتْرَةِ ٱلْهَادِيةِ
English Transliteration
fa`ala al-ata'ibi min ahli bayti muhammadin wa `aliyyin; salla allahu `alayhima wa alihima; falyabki albakuna; wa iyyahum falyandub alnnadibuna; wa limithlihim faltadhrif alddumu`u; walyasrukh alssarikhuna; wa yadijja alddajjuna; wa ya`ijja al`ajjuna; ayna alhasanu ayna alhusaynu; ayna abna'u alhusayni; salihun ba`da salihin; wa sadiqun ba`da sadiqin; ayna alssabilu ba`da alssabili; ayna alkhiyaratu ba`da alkhiyarati; ayna alshshumusu alttali`atu; ayna al-aqmaru almuniratu; ayna al-anjumu alzzahiratu; ayna a`lamu alddini; wa qawa`idu al`ilmi; ayna baqiyyatu allahi; allati la takhlu min al`itrati alhadiyati.
English Meaning
For the pure ones of the Household of Muhammad and Ali—may Allah bless them and their families—let those who weep weep, and those who lament lament. For such people let tears flow, cries rise and mourners call aloud. Where is Hasan? Where is Husayn? Where are Husayn's descendants, righteous one after righteous one, truthful one after truthful one? Where is the path after the path, the chosen one after the chosen one? Where are the rising suns, shining moons, bright stars, signs of religion and foundations of knowledge? Where is Allah's remaining proof, ever present among the guiding family?

اينَ ٱلْمُعَدُّ لِقَطْعِ دَابِرِ ٱلظَّلَمَةِ ايْنَ ٱلْمُنْتَظَرُ لإِقَامَةِ ٱلامْتِ وَٱلعِوَجِ ايْنَ ٱلْمُرْتَجىٰ لإِزَالَةِ ٱلْجَوْرِ وَٱلْعُدْوَانِ ايْنَ ٱلْمُدَّخَرُ لِتَجْدِيدِ ٱلْفَرَائِضِ وَٱلسُّنَنِ ايْنَ ٱلْمُتَخَيَّرُ لإِعَادَةِ ٱلْمِلَّةِ وَٱلشَّرِيعَةِ ايْنَ ٱلْمُؤَمَّلُ لإِحْيَاءِ ٱلْكِتَابِ وَحُدُودِهِ ايْنَ مُحْيِي مَعَالِمِ ٱلدِّينِ وَاهْلِهِ ايْنَ قَاصِمُ شَوْكَةِ ٱلْمُعْتَدِينَ ايْنَ هَادِمُ ابْنِيَةِ ٱلشِّرْكِ وَٱلنِّفَاقِ ايْنَ مُبِيدُ اهْلِ ٱلْفُسُوقِ وَٱلْعِصْيَانِ وَٱلطُّغْيَانِ ايْنَ حَاصِدُ فُرُوعِ ٱلْغَيِّ وَٱلشِّقَاقِ ايْنَ طَامِسُ آثَارِ ٱلزَّيْغِ وَٱلاهْوَاءِ ايْنَ قَاطِعُ حَبَائِلِ ٱلْكِذْبِ وَٱلِٱفْتِرَاءِ ايْنَ مُبِيدُ ٱلْعُتَاةِ وَٱلْمَرَدَةِ ايْنَ مُسْتَاصِلُ اهْلِ ٱلْعِنَادِ وَٱلتَّضْلِيلِ وَٱلإِلْحَادِ ايْنَ مُعِزُّ ٱلاوْلِيَاءِ وَمُذِلُّ ٱلاعْدَاءِ ايْنَ جَامِعُ ٱلْكَلِمَةِ عَلَىٰ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ
English Transliteration
ayna almu`addu liqat`i dabiri alzzalamati; ayna almuntazaru li'iqamati al-amti wal`iwaji; ayna almurtaja li'izalati aljawri wal`udwani; ayna almuddakharu litajdidi alfara'idi walssunani; ayna almutakhayyaru li'i`adati almillati walshshari`ati; ayna almu'ammalu li'ihya'i alkitabi wa hududihi; ayna muhyi ma`alimi alddini wa ahlihi; ayna qasimu shawkati almu`tadina; ayna hadimu abniyati alshshirki walnnifaqi; ayna mubidu ahli alfusuqi; wal`isyani walttughyani; ayna hasidu furu`i alghayyi walshshiqaqi; ayna tamisu athari alzzayghi wal-ahwa'i; ayna qati`u haba'ili alkidhbi waliftira'i; ayna mubidu al`utati walmaradati; ayna musta'silu ahli al`inadi walttadlili wal-ilhadi; ayna mu`izzu al-awliya'i wa mudhillu al-a`da'i; ayna jami`u alkalimati `ala alttaqwa.

Where is the one prepared to end the oppressors' power, the awaited one who sets crookedness straight, the hoped-for remover of injustice and aggression? Where is the one kept to renew obligations and traditions, chosen to restore the faith and law, hoped for to revive the Book and its limits? Where is the reviver of religion's signs and its people, breaker of aggressors' strength, demolisher of structures of polytheism and hypocrisy, remover of wickedness, disobedience and tyranny, cutter of error and division, effacer of deviation and vain desires, severer of lies and slander, destroyer of obstinate rebels, uprooter of stubborn opposition, misguidance and denial, honourer of friends and humbler of enemies, and uniter of people upon God-consciousness?

The awaited descendant of the Prophet

ايْنَ بَابُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِي مِنْهُ يُؤْتَىٰ ايْنَ وَجْهُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِي إِلَيْهِ يَتَوَجَّهُ ٱلاوْلِيَاءُ ايْنَ ٱلسَّبَبُ ٱلْمُتَّصِلُ بَيْنَ ٱلارْضِ وَٱلسَّمَاءِ ايْنَ صَاحِبُ يَوْمِ ٱلْفَتْحِ وَنَاشِرُ رَايَةِ ٱلْهُدَىٰ ايْنَ مُؤَلِّفُ شَمْلِ ٱلصَّلاَحِ وَٱلرِّضَا ايْنَ ٱلطَّالِبُ بِذُحُولِ ٱلانْبِيَاءِ وَابْنَاءِ ٱلانْبِيَاءِ ايْنَ ٱلطَّالِبُ بِدَمِ ٱلْمَقْتُولِ بِكَرْبَلاَءَ ايْنَ ٱلْمَنْصُورُ عَلَىٰ مَنِ ٱعْتَدَىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَٱفْتَرَىٰ ايْنَ ٱلْمُضْطَرُّ ٱلَّذِي يُجَابُ إِذَا دَعَا ايْنَ صَدْرُ ٱلْخَلاَئِقِ ذُوُ ٱلْبِرِّ وَٱلتَّقْوَىٰ ايْنَ ٱبْنُ ٱلنَّبِيِّ ٱلْمُصْطَفَىٰ وَٱبْنُ عَلِيٍّ ٱلْمُرْتَضَىٰ وَٱبْنُ خَدِيـجَةَ ٱلْغَرَّاءِ وَٱبْنُ فَاطِمَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ
English Transliteration

Where is Allah's gate through which He is approached, His countenance towards which His friends turn, the bond between earth and heaven? Where is the bearer of the day of victory and the banner of guidance, the gatherer of righteousness and divine pleasure, the seeker of redress for the Prophets and their descendants, the seeker of justice for the blood of the one killed at Karbala? Where is the one aided against aggressors and slanderers, the distressed one answered when he prays, the foremost of creation in goodness and piety? Where is the descendant of the chosen Prophet, Ali the approved, radiant Khadija and the great Fatima?

اللہ کا وہ دروازہ کہاں ہے جس سے اس کی طرف آیا جاتا ہے، وہ رخ جس کی طرف اس کے اولیاء متوجہ ہوتے ہیں، زمین و آسمان کو ملانے والا وسیلہ؟ فتح کے دن کا صاحب، ہدایت کا پرچم پھیلانے والا، صلاح و رضا کو جمع کرنے والا، انبیاء اور ان کی اولاد کے مظالم کا بدلہ طلب کرنے والا، کربلا میں مقتول کے خون کا انصاف مانگنے والا کہاں ہے؟ زیادتی اور بہتان والوں کے مقابل مدد یافتہ، دعا پر جواب پانے والا مضطر، نیکی و تقویٰ میں مخلوق کا پیشوا کہاں ہے؟ نبی مصطفیٰ، علی مرتضیٰ، روشن خدیجہ اور عظیم فاطمہ کی اولاد کہاں ہے؟

bi'abi anta wa ummi; wa nafsi laka alwiqa'u walhima; yabna alssadati almuqarrabina; yabna alnnujaba'i al-akramina; yabna alhudati almahdiyyina; yabna alkhiyarati almuhadhdhabina; yabna alghatarifati al-anjabina; yabna al-ata'ibi almutahharina; yabna alkhadarimati almuntajabina; yabna alqamaqimati al-akramina; yabna albuduri almunirati; yabna alssuruji almudi'ati; yabna alshshuhubi alththaqibati; yabna al-anjumi alzzahirati.

May my father and mother be offered for you; may my life shield and protect you. O descendant of the masters brought near, the noble chosen ones, guided guides, refined elect, eminent nobles, purified good ones, outstanding chosen leaders and generous chiefs! O descendant of illuminating full moons, shining lamps, piercing lights and radiant stars!

يَا بْنَ ٱلسُّبُلِ ٱلْوَاضِحَةِ يَا بْنَ ٱلاعْلاَمِ ٱللاَّئِحَةِ يَا بْنَ ٱلْعُلُومِ ٱلْكَامِلَةِ يَا بْنَ ٱلسُّنَنِ ٱلْمَشْهُورَةِ يَا بْنَ ٱلْمَعَالِمِ ٱلْمَاثُورَةِ يَا بْنَ ٱلْمُعْجِزَاتِ ٱلْمَوْجُودَةِ يَا بْنَ ٱلدَّلاَئِلِ ٱلْمَشْهُودَةِ يَا بْنَ ٱلصِّرَاطِ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمِ يَا بْنَ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ يَا بْنَ مَنْ هُوَ فِي امِّ ٱلْكِتَابِ لَدَىٰ ٱللَّهِ عَلِيٌّ حَكِيمٌ يَا بْنَ ٱلآيَاتِ وَٱلْبَيِّنَاتِ يَا بْنَ ٱلدَّلاَئِلِ ٱلظَّاهِرَاتِ يَا بْنَ ٱلْبَرَاهِينِ ٱلْوَاضِحَاتِ ٱلْبَاهِرَاتِ يَا بْنَ ٱلْحُجَجِ ٱلْبَالِغَاتِ يَا بْنَ ٱلنِّعَمِ ٱلسَّابِغَاتِ يَا بْنَ طـٰهٰ وَٱلْمُحْكَمَاتِ يَا بْنَ يـٰس وَٱلذَّارِيَاتِ يَا بْنَ ٱلطُّورِ وَٱلْعَادِيَاتِ يَا بْنَ مَنْ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ اوْ ادْنَىٰ دُنُوّاً وَٱقْتِرَاباً مِنَ ٱلْعَلِيِّ ٱلاعْلَىٰ
English Transliteration
yabna alssubuli alwadihati; yabna al-a`lami alla'ihati; yabna al`ulumi alkamilati; yabna alssunani almashhurati; yabna alma`alimi alma'thurati; yabna almu`jizati almawjudati; yabna alddala'ili almashhudati; yabna alssirati almustaqimi; yabna alnnaba'i al`azimi; yabna man huwa fi ummi alkitabi lada allahi `aliyyun hakimun; yabna al-ayati walbayyinati; yabna alddala'ili alzzahirati; yabna albarahini alwadihati albahirati; yabna alhujaji albalighati; yabna alnni`ami alssabighati; yabna taha walmuhkamati; yabna yasin waldhdhariyati; yabna altturi wal`adiyati; yabna man dana fatadalla; fakana qaba qawsayni aw adna; dunuwwan waqtiraban min al`aliyyi al-a`la.

O descendant of clear paths, visible signs, complete knowledge, renowned traditions, transmitted teachings, manifest miracles and witnessed proofs! O descendant of the straight path and the great announcement, of the one who is exalted and wise with Allah in the Mother of the Book; of signs and clear evidence, apparent indications, shining arguments, conclusive proofs and abundant blessings! O descendant of Ta-Ha and the firm verses, Ya-Sin and al-Dhariyat, al-Tur and al-Adiyat; of the one who drew near and descended until he was two bow-lengths away or nearer, approaching the Most High!

اے واضح راستوں، نمایاں نشانوں، کامل علوم، مشہور سنتوں، منقول تعلیمات، موجود معجزات اور مشاہدہ شدہ دلیلوں کے فرزند! اے سیدھے راستے اور عظیم خبر کی اولاد، اس ہستی کے فرزند جو اللہ کے پاس ام الکتاب میں بلند اور حکمت والا ہے! اے آیات و بینات، ظاہر دلیلوں، روشن برہانوں، کامل حجتوں اور بھرپور نعمتوں کی اولاد! اے طٰہٰ اور محکم آیات، یٰس اور ذاریات، طور اور عادیات کے فرزند! اے اس ہستی کی اولاد جو قریب ہوئی اور مزید قرب پایا، یہاں تک کہ دو کمانوں کے فاصلے یا اس سے بھی قریب، خدائے بلند و برتر کے قرب میں پہنچی!
The sorrow of absence

لَيْتَ شِعْرِي ايْنَ ٱسْتَقَرَّتْ بِكَ ٱلنَّوَىٰ بَلْ ايُّ ارْضٍ تُقِلُّكَ اوْ ثَرَىٰ ابِرَضْوَىٰ اوْ غَيْرِهَا امْ ذِي طُوَىٰٰ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيَّ انْ ارَىٰ ٱلْخَلْقَ وَلاَ تُرَىٰ وَلاَ اسْمَعُ لَكَ حَسِيساً وَلاَ نَجْوَىٰ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيَّ انْ تُحِيطَ بِكَ دُونِيَ ٱلْبَلْوَىٰ وَلاَ يَنَالُكَ مِنِّي ضَجِيجٌ وَلاَ شَكْوَىٰ بِنَفْسِي انْتَ مِنْ مُغَيَّبٍ لَمْ يَخْلُ مِنَّا بِنَفْسِي انْتَ مِنْ نَازِحٍ مَا نَزَحَ عَنَّا بِنَفْسِي انْتَ امْنِيَّةُ شَائِقٍ يَتَمَنَّىٰ مِنْ مُؤْمِنٍ وَمُؤْمِنَةٍ ذَكَرَا فَحَنَّا بِنَفْسِي انْتَ مِنْ عَقِيدِ عِزٍّ لاَ يُسَامَىٰ بِنَفْسِي انْتَ مِنْ اثِيلِ مَجْدٍ لاَ يُجَارَىٰ بِنَفْسِي انْتَ مِنْ تِلاَدِ نِعَمٍ لاَ تُضَاهَىٰ بِنَفْسِي انْتَ مِنْ نَصِيفِ شَرَفٍ لاَ يُسَاوَىٰ
English Transliteration
layta shi`ri ayna istaqarrat bika alnnawa; bal ayya ardin tuqilluka aw thara; abiradwa aw ghayriha am dhi tuwa; `azizun `alayya an ara alkhalqa wa la tura; wa la asma`u laka hasisan wa la najwa; `azizun `alayya an tuhita bika duniya albalwa; wa la yanaluka minni dajijun wa la shakwa; binafsi anta min mughayyabin lam yakhlu minna; binafsi anta min nazihin ma nazaha `anna; binafsi anta umniyyatu sha'iqin yatamanna; min mu'minin wa mu'minatin dhakara fahanna; binafsi anta min `aqidi `izzin la yusama; binafsi anta min athili majdin la yujara; binafsi anta min tiladi ni`amin la tudaha; binafsi anta min nasifi sharafin la yusawa.
English Meaning
If only I knew where separation has taken you, which land or soil bears you: Radwa, elsewhere, or Dhu Tuwa? It is hard to see people while you are unseen, and hear neither your voice nor a whisper. It is hard that trials surround you apart from me and my cries and complaints do not reach you. May my life be offered for the hidden one who has never been absent from us, the distant one who has never gone away, the desire of yearning believers, men and women, who remember and long for you; for unmatched honour, unrivalled ancient glory, incomparable inherited blessings and peerless nobility.

کاش جانتا جدائی نے آپ کو کہاں ٹھہرایا، کون سی زمین یا مٹی آپ کو اٹھائے ہے: رضویٰ، کوئی اور جگہ یا ذی طویٰ؟ میرے لیے سخت ہے کہ لوگوں کو دیکھوں مگر آپ نظر نہ آئیں اور نہ آپ کی آواز نہ سرگوشی سنوں۔ سخت ہے کہ بلا آپ کو مجھ سے الگ گھیرے اور میری فریاد و شکایت نہ پہنچے۔ میری جان آپ پر قربان، اے غائب جو ہم سے خالی نہیں، اے دور جو ہم سے دور نہیں ہوا، اے مشتاق مومن مردوں اور عورتوں کی آرزو جو یاد کرکے تڑپتے ہیں! میری جان اس بے مثل عزت، بے مقابل قدیم بزرگی، بے نظیر موروثی نعمتوں اور بے مثال شرف پر قربان۔

إِلَىٰ مَتَىٰ احَارُ فِيكَ يَا مَوْلاَيَ وَإِلَىٰ مَتَىٰ وَايَّ خِطَابٍ اصِفُ فِيكَ وَايَّ نَجْوَىٰ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيَّ انْ اجَابَ دُونَكَ وَانَاغَىٰ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيَّ انْ ابْكِيَكَ وَيَخْذُلَكَ ٱلْوَرَىٰ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيَّ انْ يَجْرِيَ عَلَيْكَ دُونَهُمْ مَا جَرَىٰ هَلْ مِنْ مُعِينٍ فَاطِيلَ مَعَهُ ٱلْعَوِيلَ وَٱلْبُكَاءَ هَلْ مِنْ جَزُوعٍ فَاسَاعِدَ جَزَعَهُ إِذَا خَلاَ هَلْ قَذِيَتْ عَيْنٌ فَسَاعَدَتْهَا عَيْنِي عَلَىٰ ٱلْقَذَىٰ هَلْ إِلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ احْمَدَ سَبِيلٌ فَتُلْقَىٰ هَلْ يَتَّصِلُ يَوْمُنَا مِنْكَ بِعِدَةٍ فَنَحْظَىٰ
English Transliteration
ila mata aharu fika ya mawlaya wa ila mata; wa ayya khitabin asifu fika wa ayya najwa; `azizun `alayya an ujaba dunaka wa unagha; `azizun `alayya an abkiyaka wa yakhdhulaka alwara; `azizun `alayya an yajriya `alayka dunahum ma jara; hal min mu`inin fa'utila ma`ahu al`awila walbuka'a; hal min jazu`in fa'usa`ida jaza`ahu idha khala; hal qadhiyat `aynun fasa`adat-ha `ayni `ala alqadha; hal ilayka yabna ahmada sabilun fatulqa; hal yattasilu yawmuna minka bi`idatin fanahza.
English Meaning
How long shall I remain bewildered about you, my Master? With what words or private speech can I describe you? It is hard to receive answers and conversation without you, to weep for you while people abandon you, and that what happened should befall you rather than them. Is there a helper with whom I may prolong lament and tears, a grieving person whose sorrow I may share in solitude, or a tearful eye with which mine may weep? O son of Ahmad, is there a way to meet you? Will our day be joined to a promise from you, so that we may rejoice?

Hope for the reign of justice

مَتَىٰ نَرِدُ مَنَاهِلَكَ ٱلرَّوِيَّةَ فَنَرْوَىٰ مَتَىٰ نَنْتَقِعُ مِنْ عَذْبِ مَائِكَ فَقَدْ طَالَ ٱلصَّدَىٰ مَتَىٰ نُغَادِيكَ وَنُرَاوِحُكَ فَنُقِرَّ عَيْناً مَتَىٰ تَرَانَا وَنَرَاكَ وَقَدْ نَشَرْتَ لِوَاءَ ٱلنَّصْرِ تُرَىٰ اتَرَانَا نَحُفُّ بِكَ وَانْتَ تَؤُمُّ ٱلْمَلَا وَقَدْ مَلَاتَ ٱلارْضَ عَدْلاًَ وَاذَقْتَ اعْدَاءَكَ هَوَاناً وَعِقَاباً وَابَرْتَ ٱلْعُتَاةَ وَجَحَدَةَ ٱلْحَقِّ وَقَطَعْتَ دَابِرَ ٱلْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ وَٱجْتَثَثْتَ اصُولَ ٱلظَّالِمِينَ وَنَحْنُ نَقُولُ ٱاَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ
English Transliteration
mata naridu manahilaka alrrawiyyata fanarwa; mata nantaqi`u min `adhbi ma'ika; faqad tala alssada; mata nughadika wa nurawihuka fanuqirra `aynan; mata tarana wa naraka wa qad nasharta liwa'a alnnasri tura; atarana nahuffu bika wa anta ta'ummu almala'a; wa qad mala'ta al-arda `adlan; wa adhaqta a`da'aka hawanan wa `iqaban; wa abarta al`utata wa jahadata alhaqqi; wa qata`ta dabira almutakabbirina; wajtathathta usula alzzalimina; wa nahnu naqulu alhamdu lillahi rabbi al`alamina.

When shall we reach your refreshing springs and drink fully? When shall we draw benefit from your sweet water, for thirst has lasted long? When shall we meet you morning and evening and find delight? When shall you see us and we see you, with the banner of victory unfurled? Will you see us gathered around you as you lead the people, having filled the earth with justice, made your enemies taste humiliation and punishment, overcome rebels and deniers of truth, ended the arrogant and uprooted oppression, while we say: 'All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all worlds'?

کب آپ کے سیراب کرنے والے چشموں پر پہنچ کر سیراب ہوں گے؟ کب آپ کے میٹھے پانی سے فائدہ اٹھائیں گے، پیاس بہت طویل ہوگئی؟ کب صبح و شام آپ کے ساتھ ہوں گے اور آنکھوں کو قرار ملے گا؟ کب آپ ہمیں اور ہم آپ کو دیکھیں گے، فتح کا پرچم کھلا ہوگا؟ کیا آپ ہمیں اپنے گرد دیکھیں گے، جبکہ آپ لوگوں کی امامت کر رہے ہوں، زمین کو عدل سے بھر دیا ہو، دشمنوں کو ذلت اور سزا چکھائی ہو، سرکشوں اور حق کے منکروں کو ختم، متکبروں کا سلسلہ کاٹ اور ظالموں کی جڑیں اکھاڑ دی ہوں، اور ہم کہیں: تمام حمد اللہ رب العالمین کے لیے ہے؟
Turning to Allah for relief

اَللَّهُمَّ انْتَ كَشَّافُ ْٱلكُرَبِ وَٱلْبَلْوَىٰ وَإِلَيْكَ اسْتَعْدِي فَعِنْدَكَ ٱلْعَدْوَىٰ وَانْتَ رَبُّ ٱلآخِرَةِ وَٱلدُّنْيَا فَاغِثْ يَا غِيَاثَ ٱلْمُسْتَغِيثِينَ عُبَيْدَكَ ٱلْمُبْتَلَىٰ وَارِهِ سَيِّدَهُ يَا شَدِيدَ ٱلْقُوَىٰ وَازِلْ عَنْهُ بِهِ ٱلاسَىٰ وَٱلْجَوَىٰ وَبَرِّدْ غَلِيلَهُ يَا مَنْ عَلَىٰ ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱسْتَوَىٰ وَمَنْ إِلَيْهِ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰ وَٱلْمُنْتَهَىٰ
English Transliteration
allahumma anta kashshafu alkurabi walbalwa; wa ilayka asta`di fa`indaka al`adwa; wa anta rabbu al-akhirati walddunya; fa'aghith ya ghiyatha almustaghithina `ubaydaka almubtala; wa arihi sayyidahu ya shadida alquwa; wa azil `anhu bihi al-asa waljawa; wa barrid ghalilahu ya man `ala al`arshi istawa; wa man ilayhi alrruj`a walmuntaha.
English Meaning
O Allah, You remove anguish and trials. I appeal to You for help, for help is with You. You are Lord of the Hereafter and this world. O Rescuer of those seeking rescue, aid Your afflicted little servant. O Mighty One, show him his master, remove sorrow and heartache through him, and cool his burning longing, O You established over the Throne, to whom is the return and final destination.

اَللَّهُمَّ وَنَحْنُ عَبِيدُكَ ٱلتَّائِقُونَ إِلَىٰ وَلِيِّكَ ٱلْمُذَكِّرِ بِكَ وَبِنَبِيِّكَ خَلَقْتَهُ لَنَا عِصْمَةً وَمَلاَذاً وَاقَمْتَهُ لَنَا قِوَاماً وَمَعَاذاً وَجَعَلْتَهُ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنَّا إِمَاماً فَبَلِّغْهُ مِنَّا تَحِيَّةً وَسَلاَماً وَزِدْنَا بِذٰلِكَ يَا رَبِّ إِكْرَاماً وَٱجْعَلْ مُسْتَقَرَّهُ لَنَا مُسْتَقَرّاً وَمُقَاماً وَاتْمِمْ نِعْمَتَكَ بِتَقْدِيـمِكَ إِيَّاهُ امَامَنَا حَتَّىٰ تُورِدَنَا جِنَانَكَ وَمُرَافَقَةَ ٱلشُّهَدَاءِ مِنْ خُلَصَائِكَ
English Transliteration
allahumma wa nahnu `abiduka altta'iquna ila waliyyika; almudhakkiri bika wa binabiyyika; khalaqtahu lana `ismatan wa maladhan; wa aqamtahu lana qiwaman wa ma`adhan; wa ja`altahu lilmu'minina minna imaman; faballighhu minna tahiyyatan wa salaman; wa zidna bidhalika ya rabbi ikraman; waj`al mustaqarrahu lana mustaqarran wa muqaman; wa atmim ni`mataka bitaqdimika iyyahu amamana; hatta turidana jinanaka; wa murafaqata alshshuhada'i min khulasa'ika.

O Allah, we are Your servants yearning for Your wali, who reminds us of You and Your Prophet. You created him as protection and refuge for us, established him as our support and shelter, and made him Imam for the believers among us. Convey our greetings and peace to him, and through this increase our honour, my Lord. Make his dwelling our dwelling and abode; complete Your favour by placing him before us as our leader, until You bring us into Your gardens and the company of martyrs among Your sincere chosen servants.

اے اللہ! ہم تیرے بندے ہیں، تیرے ولی کے مشتاق، جو تیری اور تیرے نبی کی یاد دلاتا ہے۔ تو نے اسے ہمارے لیے حفاظت و پناہ بنایا، سہارا و امان قائم کیا اور ہم مومنوں کا امام قرار دیا۔ ہماری طرف سے تحیت و سلام پہنچا، اور اے رب، اس سے ہماری عزت بڑھا۔ اس کا ٹھکانا ہمارا ٹھکانا اور مقام بنا؛ اسے ہمارا پیشوا بنا کر نعمت مکمل کر، یہاں تک کہ ہمیں اپنی جنتوں اور اپنے خالص برگزیدوں میں سے شہیدوں کی رفاقت میں پہنچا دے۔

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ جَدِّهِ وَرَسُولِكَ ٱلسَّيِّدِ ٱلاكْبَرِ وَعَلَىٰ ابِيهِ ٱلسَّيِّدِ ٱلاصْغَرِ وَجَدَّتِهِ ٱلصِّدِّيقَةِ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَعَلَىٰ مَنِ ٱصْطَفَيْتَ مِنْ آبَائِهِ ٱلْبَرَرَةِ وَعَلَيْهِ افْضَلَ وَاكْمَلَ وَاتَمَّ وَادْوَمَ وَاكْثَرَ وَاوْفَرَ مَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ احَدٍ مِنْ اصْفِيَائِكَ وَخِيَرَتِكَ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ صَلاَةً لاَ غَايَةَ لِعَدَدِهَا وَلاَ نِهَايَةَ لِمَدَدِهَا وَلاَ نَفَادَ لاِمَدِهَا
English Transliteration
allahumma salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin; wa salli `ala muhammadin jaddihi wa rasulika; alssayyidi al-akbari; wa `ala abihi alssayyidi al-asghari; wa jaddatihi alssiddiqati alkubra; fatimata binti muhammadin; slla allah `alihi wa alihi; wa `ala man istafayta min aba'ihi albararati; wa `alayhi afdala wa akmala; wa atamma wa adwama; wa akthara wa awfara; ma sallayta `ala ahadin min asfiya'ika; wa khiyaratika min khalqika; wa salli `alayhi salatan la ghayata li`adadiha; wa la nihayata limadadiha; wa la nafada li'amadiha.
English Meaning
O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad. Bless Muhammad, his grandfather and Your Messenger, the foremost master; his father, the younger master; his grandmother, the great truthful Fatima daughter of Muhammad—may Allah bless him and his family—and his righteous forefathers whom You chose. Bless him with the best, most complete, perfect, lasting, abundant and plentiful blessings You have bestowed on any of Your elect and chosen creation. Bless him with blessings whose number has no limit, whose provision has no end and whose duration never runs out.

اے اللہ! محمد اور آل محمد پر رحمت نازل فرما۔ ان کے جد محمد، تیرے رسول اور بڑے سردار، ان کے والد جو دوسرے سردار ہیں، ان کی جدہ صدیقہ کبریٰ فاطمہ بنت محمد، اللہ نبی اور ان کی آل پر رحمت کرے، اور ان کے نیک منتخب آباء پر رحمت فرما۔ ان پر وہ افضل، اکمل، اتم، دائمی، کثیر اور بھرپور رحمت نازل کر جو اپنی مخلوق کے کسی برگزیدہ پر نازل کی ہو۔ ایسی رحمت جس کی تعداد کی حد نہ ہو، جس کے سلسلے کا اختتام نہ ہو اور جس کی مدت کبھی ختم نہ ہو۔

اَللَّهُمَّ وَاقِمْ بِهِ ٱلْحَقَّ وَادْحِضْ بِهِ ٱلْبَاطِلَ وَادِلْ بِهِ اوْلِيَاءَكَ وَاذْلِلْ بِهِ اعْدَاءَكَ وَصِلِ ٱللَّهُمَّ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَهُ وُصْلَةً تُؤَدِّي إِلَىٰ مُرَافَقَةِ سَلَفِهِ وَٱجْعَلْنَا مِمَّنْ يَاخُذُ بِحُجْزَتِهِمْ وَيَمْكُثُ فِي ظِلِّهِمْ وَاعِنَّا عَلَىٰ تَادِيَةِ حُقُوقِهِ إِلَيْهِ وَٱلِٱجْتِهَادِ فِي طَاعَتِهِ وَٱجْتِنَابِ مَعْصِيَتِهِ وَٱمْنُنْ عَلَيْنَا بِرِضَاهُ وَهَبْ لَنَا رَافَتَهُ وَرَحْمَتَهُ وَدُعَاءَهُ وَخَيْرَهُ مَا نَنَالُ بِهِ سَعَةً مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ وَفَوْزاً عِنْدَكَ
English Transliteration
allahumma wa aqim bihi alhaqqa; wa adhid bihi albatila; wa adil bihi awliya'aka; wa adhlil bihi a`da'aka; wa sil allahumma baynana wa baynahu; wuslatan tu'addi ila murafaqati salafihi; waj`alna mimman ya'khudhu bihujzatihim; wa yamkuthu fi zillihim; wa a`inna `ala ta'diyati huquqihi ilayhi; walijtihadi fi ta`atihi; wajtinabi ma`siyatihi; wamnun `alayna biridahu; wa hab lana ra'fatahu wa rahmatahu; wa du`a'ahu wa khayrahu; ma nanalu bihi sa`atan min rahmatika; wa fawzan `indaka.
English Meaning
O Allah, establish truth through him, overthrow falsehood through him, grant Your friends victory and humble Your enemies through him. Join us to him with a bond that brings us to the company of his predecessors. Make us cling to them and remain in their shade. Help us fulfil his rights, strive to obey him and avoid disobedience. Favour us with his approval and grant us his compassion, mercy, prayer and goodness, through which we may receive the breadth of Your mercy and success with You.

وَٱجْعَلْ صَلاَتَنَا بِهِ مَقبُولَةً وَذُنُوبَنَا بِهِ مَغْفُورَةً وَدُعَاءَنَا بِهِ مُسْتَجَاباً وَٱجْعَلْ ارْزَاقَنَا بِهِ مَبْسُوطَةً وَهُمُومَنَا بِهِ مَكْفِيَّةً وَحَوَائِجَنَا بِهِ مَقْضِيَّةً وَاقْبِلْ إِلَيْنَا بِوَجْهِكَ ٱلْكَرِيـمِ وَٱقْبَلْ تَقَرُّبَنَا إِلَيْكَ وَٱنْظُرْ إِلَيْنَا نَظْرَةً رَحِيمَةً نَسْتَكْمِلُ بِهَا ٱلْكَرَامَةَ عِنْدَكَ ثُمَّ لاَ تَصْرِفْهَا عَنَّا بِجُودِكَ
English Transliteration
waj`al salatana bihi maqbulatan; wa dhunubana bihi maghfuratan; wa du`a'ana bihi mustajaban; waj`al arzaqana bihi mabsutatan; wa humumana bihi makfiyyatan; wa hawa'ijana bihi maqdiyyatan; wa aqbil ilayna biwajhika alkarimi; waqbal taqarrubana ilayka; wanzur ilayna nazratan rahimatan; nastakmilu biha alkaramata `indaka; thumma la tasrifha `anna bijudika.
English Meaning
Through him, make our prayers accepted, our sins forgiven and our supplications answered. Through him, widen our provision, remove our worries and fulfil our needs. Turn towards us with Your generous countenance, accept our seeking nearness to You and look upon us with mercy, by which we may attain complete honour with You. Through Your generosity, never turn that mercy away from us.

وَٱسْقِنَا مِنْ حَوْضِ جَدِّهِ صَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ بِكَاسِهِ وَبِيَدِهِ رَيّاً رَوِيّاً هَنِيئاً سَائِغاً لاَ ظَمَا بَعْدَهُ يَا ارْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمينَ
English Transliteration
wasqina min hawdi jaddihi; salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi; bika'sihi wa biyadihi; rayyan rawiyyan; hani'an sa'ighan; la zama'a ba`dahu; ya arhama alrrahimina.
English Meaning
Give us drink from the Pond of his grandfather—may Allah bless him and his family—from his cup and by his hand: a full, refreshing drink, pleasant and easy to take, after which there is no thirst, O Most Merciful of those who show mercy.
